2008 - 2009
Tuesday February 9th, 2010February PTA Meeting cancelled. Because the Department of Education has issued an announcement that schools will be closed on Wednesday, Feb. 10, the PTA General Meeting scheduled for tomorrow is cancelled. There will be no meeting in February, since there is not enough time to schedule a new one. The next meeting will be the one on March 11.
Tuesday December 15th, 2009Volunteers Needed! Every year, during the SING! production (January 28, 29, and 30), parent volunteers assist by serving dinner to the judges between the first and second performances each evening, and helping to clean up. Parents who do volunteer only miss the first fifteen minutes or so of the second performance, and their service is greatly appreciated by the students, staff, and judges. It is not necessary to commit to all three shows; helping with just a single show is appreciated.
If anyone would like to volunteer, they can contact the PTA by email at pta@thhs.qc.edu.

Wednesday October 28th, 2009The PTA would like to thank all parents who have made donations to its fund-raising drive. So far, we have raised $35,000. We are still short of our goal. The school is counting on us to alleviate the effects of the budget cuts. In order to meet the needs of the school, we need to reach at least $40,000. Our target remains at $75,000.
The PTA will accept donations all year long. If you would like to donate, please send a check with your child, to be delivered to the PTA mailbox in school, or pay on the Support page of the website with your credit card.
Monday May 11th, 2009The school has started using its main entrance on 149th Street for arrival and dismissal of students, instead of the entrance on Melbourne Avenue that it has used until now. The school is asking all parents to please drop off and pick up their children on Melbourne Avenue, and have them walk the block between the main entrance and Melbourne, rather than driving onto 149th Street, which will cause traffic problems all around.
Sunday December 7th, 2008Starting on Wednesday, January 7th, Mr. Bonamo will be hosting a monthly “Breakfast with the Principal” from 8:30 to 9:30 A.M. in the Principal's Conference Room (Room 301). Saturday December 6th, 2008Townsend Harris High School was ranked 71st in 2009 U.S.News & World Report America's Best High Schools. The ranking is based on data collected in the 2006-2007 academic year. The school was ranked 45th last year.
The ranking system used by School Evaluation Services, the company that created the list, is based on a composite which includes, primarily, the ratio of the number of seniors who took and passed (received an AP score of 3 or higher or an IB score of 4 or higher) at least one of the tests before or during their senior year, divided by the number of seniors. 75% of the score used to rank the schools was based on this ratio. The remainder was just the participation rate, which is the fraction of seniors who took an AP or IB exam before or during their senior year, divided by the number of seniors. You can read their description of the methodology here.
